I just did our taxes yesterday and we owe the government almost $15,000.

We got a dividend during the year from a family business and used it to pay off all our credit cards and as a down payment on Marshall's new car. We usually get a nice tax refund, so we were hoping it would even itself out or we might owe just a little. But that dividend bumped us up into a higher tax bracket and we were not expecting to owe this much. Needless to say, I had a couple of beers with my dinner afterwards to try to relax.
Now for the good news... On Monday Marshall started working. He doesn't have long-term "employment" but he's secured work on a couple of back to back movies that should keep him working between now until the end of May.

Pretty nice after 6 weeks of no income! As of now, there is no work for him between the end of May and September. But we have faith that God will provide for us. We WILL get through this.
ugh! taxes!! that stinks :(
ReplyDeletebut praise God for Marshall's job! yay! You are so right that God provides!
The taxes do stink. Our accountant just called back tonight, I'm afraid to know what for.
ReplyDeleteThe job is great! God never fails us.
Wonderful, wonderful news about Marshall's job.
ReplyDeleteTaxes stink. And this year I too feel your pain. LITERALLY
Sending much good juju and crossed fingers your way!!!
ReplyDeleteOh man, we had a nice tax surprise a few years ago. It took more than a few beers to get over it!
ReplyDeleteGreat news on the work. We will just pray they keep coming back to back like that!
Yikes - that little tax surprise must have been jaw-dropping shocking. so very sorry.
ReplyDeleteBut Yay for 2 movies. That's got to feel like manna from heaven - manna rewarding all Marshall's hard work, sweat, & tireless networking!! I'll keep praying for continued jobs...
booooo taxman....yay marshall...good things will come...
ReplyDeleteYes, you will get through it. Yikes, what a scary tax! You will get through that, too. I am so happy Marshall got a job. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteWe need to go to a tea party tomorrow... ugh. xoxo
ReplyDeleteNot 1, but 2!!! movies. Excellent news, I think...
ReplyDeleteThe taxes--ouch! Sorry they caught you off guard.
So sorry to hear about your taxes! That really stinks. Ugh
ReplyDeleteHappy though that Marshall has found work for a little while. And you're right- God will provide.
Oh my goodness! What a downer about the taxes! I'd cry. Then have about 10 beers.
ReplyDeleteWAHOOOOOOOO about work! Income is always a good thing. :)
Ugh - those taxes! I'm so happy that there was good news to follow that though.
ReplyDeleteoh my, I am so sorry!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie.. long time no talk. I hope everything works out!
ReplyDeleteI really can't fathom having to pay an extra $15,00 in taxes. That sucks.
ReplyDeleteI almost sh!t a brick the year we owed $10K! And we were still working!
ReplyDeleteYikes... it's always a good thing and a bad thing when you're bumped into a new tax bracket, isn't it? We had just a tiny refund, although I prefer owing just a tiny amount. I felt good that it was because we gave more to charity this year though :)
ReplyDeleteAnd YAY to Marshall. How exciting that he has work with everything else going on right now! Fingers crossed past May. And September he has something, too, then? Am I inferring correctly?
I like the good news better. That happened to us one year and it was not a good surprise. At least you don't have to pay it all back at once and they let us spread it out and make payments.
ReplyDelete((((Hugs to You))))
Hi Julie - OUCH!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought we had it bad this year!
So glad you had such good news too!!
Maureen
