Today we packed a lunch and had a little picnic at a local Train Museum that we've been going to for years. Best thing about this place... it's FREE. And we like "free" these days. We warned our kids when we got there that we would not buy tickets to ride the miniature train around the park and we would not be getting anything from the gift shop and they were great sports about it.
My one beef with this place is that most of the trains have chains up so you can't climb in. And this time even more of their cars were closed for restoration. Some trains are only available for birthday parties. But a few trains you can climb up and they're pretty fun.
This train apparently is open only on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Why? Who knows!
This picture made me laugh, because apparently I have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy.
We did enjoy climbing up in the few trains that were open. Marshall got a cute picture of the kids in this train...
But there was this one train that the kids always love to climb in and we love to take pictures of them in. It's an old orange train. Here's a picture we took a couple of years ago with the kids in this train.
And an even older picture with Haven when he was still an only child...
So when we first got to the Train Museum, I told Marshall... the only picture I really want is of the kids in that orange train. Since it was by the exit, it was the last train we saw. And you know what? It was CLOSED and roped off! FAIL!!!
So I did what any normal mother would do. I made Marshall take a picture of the empty train and photoshop the kids into the train windows.
That's called turning lemons into lemonade, folks.
