The Wagon Is My Friend

Some of you noticed that the little sign on my side bar switched last week from "Not Drinking" to "Drinking". Man, I can't get anything past you, can I? I was clean for 23 days straight. Pretty impressive considering I used to consume 3 large fast-food sized Dr Peppers a day. But then on the 23rd day I thought to myself, Self? How long am I going to keep this up? Forever? Maybe I can have some Dr Pepper every 23 days, since Dr Pepper is a special blend of 23 flavors.

Hey, don't ever underestimate my ability to justify the need for Dr Pepper. So I went on a 5 day drinking bender. Relapse is a part of recovery, right? RIGHT?!

Don't you worry... I'm back on the wagon, where I will stay. For now.

  1. Haha you sound like me! I have spent the entire month of Januray without fried food, and I totally ate some chips today. But, I felt kind of bloated! I decided that tomorrow, I might have to go back to the no friend food plan. :)

  2. One Dr. Pepper every 23 days sounds TOTALLY reasonable. ;)

  3. How about one once a week? That way you won't feel denied.:D

  4. Oh, there's nothing wrong with a little Dr. Pepper every once in a while. I'll make you a deal - I'll drink some for you when you're NOT drinking (sweet, I get one this AM!) and when you ARE drinking I'll take a break. That way the Dr. Pepper universe will stay in balance. ;)

  5. I have a Diet Pepsi monkey on my back. I just can't stay away from it! I did two weeks in the beginning of January, but then it sneaks back in and before I know it I'm drinking 3-4 20 oz bottles a day! It's crazy.

  6. Thanks for clearing that up for me! :)

I have been doing the same thing with Coke for YEARS now. I can justify with the best of them. Currently I am off the wagon b/c Abe isn't sleeping and I need my steady stream of caffeine throughout the day- coffee in the am, coke in the afternoon. Makes perfect sense right?

  7. We've not had Diet Coke (my poison of choice) in the house for the past week. And I'd be lying if I didn't admit that it makes me twitch. There are some foods/snacks that just aren't right without soda. Like my homemade Chex Mix. It's just not the same being chased down by a tall glass of water.

Why the lack of stock in the house? The dumb stuff hasn't gone on sale in a while and I refuse to pay $2/bottle for it. I'm stubborn like that.

So I'm twitching away and watching for sales...

  8. As a fellow Dr. Pepper addict, I am super impressed that you lasted 23 days. I'm pretty sure I've never come even close to that long.

  9. This cracked me up! I need one of those for Coke Zero. I'm a total addict. I'm currently trying to wean myself again and it is NOT EASY AT ALL.

  11. So hilarious...but I get it. Or maybe it's hilarious BECAUSE I get it. I can do without when I choose to, but I don't choose to often. I like my 2-a-day Diet Dr. Pepper habit.

  12. Sometimes it just can't be helped. For me it's chocolate...truffles that is. Oh my gosh. I keep telling myself "moderation is the key...". Yeah right.

  13. I understand-that is me with coke. (Coca-Cola). I limit to one a day. But my New Years Resolution was to drink more water-so far, so good...

  14. How will you know you've recovered if you don't fall off the wagon a few times?

(Tottally tounge in cheeck, of course. Says the shoe addict...)

  15. I'm surprised anyone can last that long without their poison of choice. I couldn't though I should, since I've probably have had 3 diet pepsi and 3 diet dr peppers(cans) today. Yikes, I think I have a problem...

  16. The first step is admitting you have a problem.

The second step is taking recreational drugs to help you quit.

  17. I have been told a hundred times to stop drinking Diet Coke but I refuse. I don't know if I could live without it! :) I cut out the caffiene and I am still getting yelled out! Oh well! There could be worse addictions. :)

  18. You could drink 23 on the 23rd of every month.

  19. 23 days... 23 flavors... love it! I'm surprised you didn't justify drinking it for 23 days then. Oops.

  20. As a fellow Dr Pepper addict, I'm impressed that you managed 23 days! I made it a week once.

Mentally, I totally know I should kick this habit, but good. Soda is horrendous for me on so many levels. And then of course, there's the latest about mercury being in HFCS (which is already bad in and of itself).

Somehow, my taste buds are having a hard time getting on (and staying on) that bandwagon, though. Ironic to have come across this post today. I actually had NO DP yesterday. Haven't had any today either . . . but it's early.

I've tried to rationalize that I'll only have one per day or only when we eat out, but that hasn't gotten very far.

Guess I'll have to check in here and gain some motivation from your journey. :D
