Now that our youngest kid knows Legos are not tasty treats, we have finally agreed to allow Star Wars Lego sets in the house. Haven received a few smaller sets throughout the year, but this was the first Christmas and birthday he's had since the Star Wars Lego ban has been lifted.
Between the two events this past week, he received 5 Star Wars Lego sets. Including the set that he wanted most. The Republic Attack Gunship.
But the deal is... Haven wants to play with them assembled. The putting-together part doesn't really appeal to him. So Marshall has assembled over 3300 Legos since Christmas. During Haven's birthday, Marshall put together that beast of a Lego set while I kicked Haven's butt on the Wii. Oh yeah, that "You wouldn't try to win, Mama... I'm your son and it's my birthday" crap doesn't work on me. Bring it.
Oh right... getting back to the Lego subject. It took Marshall FOUR HOURS to put that baby together. He also set up the camera on his laptop to video tape it in time lapse and squeezed it into the length of a song. Brilliant he is! Check it out.
Marshall is one fantastic Daddy. And thankfully, our son knows it too. During his birthday he said, "I know I'm luckier than a lot of kids." And he is right.
Oh. My. That's a LOT of legos!
ReplyDeleteI'm the opposite of Haven. I like to put them together, but don't want to play with them! ;D
Okay, that video is seriously funny!
ReplyDeleteDid he get up for a potty break at all during those four hours?
I was thinking the exact same thing as Ruthanne..."No potty break?" Haven is blessed to have such an incredible dad.
ReplyDeleteThe baby picture below had me smiling! Did you show him that yet?
That video is great! Four hours...that is amazing :)
ReplyDeleteHilarious! -BA
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, INDEED!!! And what a bunch of chicks we comment-posters are. Gotta admit: I wondered about the whole potty break thing, too. Plus, I'm getting old. Sitting that long on a hard floor? Ouch! I gotta stretch and move around and, and ... and SNACK!!! I love all the cute flurry of activity happening around Marshall ... the kids coming and going, the cat popped in at least once. Were the kids told NOT to step in front of the computer, or were those shots edited out? Gosh, I'm just full of questions, aren't I?!?
ReplyDeleteMy eldest got this set, too. He used his bday money and 5k Turkey Trot bribery/reward money to buy it. Big Dude searched online for (I'm not kidding...) MONTHS to try and find it cheaper than retail. Never could. So we broke down and did our part to "stimulate" the economy :-}
Yikes, well, aren't I being wordy this morning?
So great. Did he get up to eat or pee that whole time? What a stud.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on not letting the kids win too.
PRICELESS!!!!! And he did not even have any leftover pieces! IT'S A MIRACLE!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I loved watching that, and I am so impressed at Marshall's dedication. What a super cool Dad!
ReplyDeleteMy 6 year old loves Star Wars too, and like Haven wants to play with the SW legos assembled--which means I have to assemble, which I hate (we just got a 1000 piece set that I am dreading). The things is he plays battle with them and they all fall apart. Too bad there aren't more SW play things that aren't Legos.

Well, we are happy owners of many of those sets, too.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, quite thankfully, our 8 yo won't let us touch them and insists on assembling them all himself. I'm sure my Handy Man is relieved. I know I don't have the patience for it.
What a good sport Marshall is. That video was great - loved all the pets and kids coming in and out of the video. What a trooper!
Very cute! I love how Haven pops over every once in a while to check on the progress.
ReplyDeleteTell Marshall that video is so cool. I can't believe it took that long though. My son would love that ship but he is only almost 6. So I tell him he has to wait a few more years.
ReplyDeleteWow. The part I'm most impressed by is that he sits there for four houss and only crosses and uncrosses his legs a bit. Dedicated Daddy is right! Good to know that Haven appreciates it.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Four hours condensed down to less than three minutes... love it.
ReplyDeleteI have major fanny fatigue after watching that :-)
ReplyDeleteYa'll are too good. I so would not have done that :-)
That video is one of the coolest things I've seen on YouTube. That is an amazing feat of engineering skill. Not to mention more patience than I'll ever have! ;) I want to know why no one has asked what game you so thoroughly kicked your son's butt at? Sure, Marshall's the hero, but you were there too!
ReplyDeleteNuh-uh, dude! You put your own lego junk together! And keep it out of reach of the vacuum. Lucky kid!
ReplyDeleteDid any one notice the engineer-esque way that Marshall laid those peices out? How long did that take? And get a gander at that instruction MANUAL (not leaflet)!
ReplyDeleteThat was SO cool!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI ran across it listed on a few other blogs. I'm currently in the middle of a domestic adoption. Thank you for sharing your open adoption story. It is rare to see.

That video is brilliant! We won't buy the big sets simply because neither one us wants to have to put it together!
ReplyDeleteHaven IS a lucky boy!
Wow, he *is* a good daddy. Right on! Although, I'm sure daddies still enjoy lego, too. :)
ReplyDeleteJust popping back from Crumbs to let you know that I FINALLY had a chance to finish Twilight! Really enjoyed it and wanted to say thanks again for that. Onto New Moon now! Oh, and you can read my little "admission" about it at

Don't hate me for being shy about it! :)
That's amazing! He makes it look so easy!!
ReplyDeleteHappy late birthday to Haven. I loved his baby pic - too cute.
I love the "brilliant he is". Your family is like ours "America" version :-)
ReplyDeleteQuoth the Vader:
ReplyDelete"Impressive...most impressive."
