Tis The Season To Let Your Kids Talk You Into Decorating Early

I've always looked forward to decorating for Christmas. Every year I force Marshall to drag out the decorations the day after Thanksgiving. Never in my life have I decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving. Until now.

The kids have been nagging me to decorate for Christmas since the Halloween decorations went down. Every time they've asked, I've said no. But this Sunday we finally caved. I'm not exactly sure how it even happened. The kids started begging yet again and Marshall and I both hesitated for just a fraction of a second. And that's all they needed. They noticed that brief hesitation and they all started cheering, "Yay, we get to decorate for Christmas today!!!". Marshall and I just stood there with looks of unbelief on our faces, wondering how everything went so wrong, so quickly. Perhaps this is how Marshall felt when the kids and I ganged up on him and talked him into letting us get a snake. (or three)

Anyway, accepting defeat, Marshall got out the decorations and I went to work setting them up. We've always had just one Christmas tree. Until now. This year we have two. I took advantage of the after-Christmas sales last year to buy a fabulous, full-sized (7 and 1/2 foot) PURPLE Christmas tree, pre-lit with purple lights. Oh yeah. It's purplicious. You wanna see it?

If you haven't already, hop on over to Marshall's blog to see the fabulous picture he took of the purple tree.

You know what just happened? I got through one whole post without mentioning Twilight. No wait. I just mentioned it. Sigh. Never mind.

  3. Fabulous purple tree!

I won't allow Christmas music, Christmas talk, or Christmas decorations until the day after Thanksgiving either- my kids actually think something really bad might happen if we do otherwise. You win for being a good parent on this one. :)

  6. The SACRILEDGE!!! ;) DIG the purple tree! You are just the coolest girl on the block, Julie. I'm with Em -- nothing nada zip about Christmas until after Thanksgiving pie. I don't think my kids have even thought about the issue, so don't give 'em any ideas. ;)

  14. What an amazing tree! Just so you know, purple being Raven's color, there's a lot of it round here. My husband would probably give his left pinky toe for a purple tree. Seriously.

  18. Why am I surprised you have a purple tree? Should be par for the course.

I don't decorate before Thanksgiving either, but I need to do it this weekend or I'll only have them up a couple of weeks.

  28. Wow! That is a very purple tree! Before I met my husband, I always had a blue and silver tree. Every year.

Then my husband came along, and now I have a regular old mish mash of ornaments. Some day, I hope to get back to the blue and silver look that's packed away in the basement, though. Your purple look is beautiful!
