Well, this morning, I got a call from our credit card company. They were notified today by a merchant that someone had hacked into the merchant's computer and stole a bunch of credit card numbers. Ours included. So they put an immediate freeze on our credit card account and will be mailing us new cards. Since it was caught so quickly, we don't think any unauthorized purchases have been made yet, but I won't know for sure until I get the credit card statement. (the thieves have to make a new card with the number and then they usually sell it to a third party)
And I'm glad we aren't using our debit card as a credit card. Because temporarily freezing our credit card account, though inconvenient, is not as inconvenient as a temporary freeze on your checking account. It won't lead to bounced checks and an inability to pay your bills online.
Until last month, we had never had a debit or credit card number stolen. Now this has happened twice in two months' time.
And I'm thinking, people who steal people's debit and credit card numbers are mean.
And mean people suck.
I can't believe it! Again? Argh!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable!!
ReplyDeleteaw man!! that's brutal..sorry! :(
ReplyDeleteawwwwwwww man!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletecan't you go on line and check what has been purchased? I can with all my credit cards.
I cannot even begin to imagine the headaches people have had due to identity theft. Did ya'll figure out who might have stolen your debit card and pin?
ReplyDeleteThe offer still stands for the $20 loan... you are right though, mean people do suck. Sometimes that word really fits.
ReplyDeleteGreedy thieves .. I'm blowing rasberries at them .. though I doubt it will affect them.
ReplyDeleteSorry this is happening again! I hope you're able to resolve this quickly!!
You poor thing...that is awful!!! It's as bad as them breaking in...your personal property has been touched.
ReplyDeleteI hope it works out okay!

you guys have officially used up all of the crappy karma that was out there circling your home. for the next two years-- nothing but smooth sailing. You heard it here first.
ReplyDeleteOh no!! What are the odds? I'm so sorry.
ReplyDeleteHow terrible! I'm glad the credit card company caught it so quickly.
ReplyDeleteOur credit card company is annoying about how they try to stay on top of our security. When we were buying my son's crib, they ran our credit card number and instead of the usual APPROVED, it came up CALL FOR AUTHORIZATION.
So the store called them and the card company wanted to talk to us. We then got a lecture from our credit card company that we needed to call them before making a big purchase. We never call. We don't usually know what date and time we are going to be in a store buying something the credit card company considers a "major purchase."
Like I said, it's annoying but it's better than having someone steal your card or number and never knowing about it until the bill arrives. Ha! My comment turned into a rant!
Anyway, glad the company is on top of it but that is so bizarre that it's happened twice like that so close together for you. Hopefully this will be your last run of bad luck for a while!
Losers. I will take them down, don't you worry.
ReplyDeleteMean people do suck! And you have me fearing for my own identity and credit cards. Scary. Just scary.
ReplyDeleteOur credit card number was stolen a couple months ago, too.
ReplyDeleteThen recently my husband got a letter in the mail from his previous employer saying that an x-employee stole a ton of laptops that housed thousands of employee ssn's and addresses (my husbands included).
Then we've been getting mysterious phone calls from an unidentified source trying to get us to confirm our address and SSN over the phone.
These crazy economical times are turning people into thieves!
So sad. So scary.
Wow! I'm glad it was your credit card and not your debit card! Now I'm really going to take your advice. What a pain.
ReplyDeleteMean people totally suck!
Oh snap! What are the odds? I don't think I ever blogged about it because I was having a thermal nuclear meltdown when it was happening, but both my sister and I had cards cancelled on us the day before we left for Ethiopia to pick up Halligator. Um yeah. That'll drive you under the kitchen table with a bottle of wine.
ReplyDeleteMy son who was 2 years old at the time had his SS Number Stolen. Craziness.
ReplyDeleteNuh uh. I don't even believe it!
ReplyDeleteUn. be. liev. able.
*hugs* At least they caught it early this time.
really? What a pain, so sorry. When you see Edward on Friday night, tell him all about it....they will leave you alone after that!
ReplyDeleteScary. So just use cash! Thats what I'm gonna have to do.
ReplyDeleteYikes! This is awful... I'd be all "cash ONLY" after this.
ReplyDeleteAnd I never did find that rocket-launcher for ya, did I?
I'm thinking you are like Schelp Rock this month with that little black cloud over your head. Stay out of my neighborhood...two black clouds can't co-exist! LOL
