Blight On The Block???

There's an interesting article in the current issue of Consumer Reports. Yes I get that magazine, and yes I consult it before every major purchase. Doesn't everyone? Ok, it's a gift subscription my mom renews every year. Don't judge.

Actually I hadn't yet read the latest issue. It was sitting in a pile of magazines waiting for me to stop doing mindless things like blogging, so I could do more productive things like parenting my children reading magazines. Anywho, I talked to my sister yesterday, who probably also has a gift subscription from our mom, and she told me to read this article.

It's titled, "Neighbor Wars: Keeping The Peace". They mention things like Noisy Neighbors (something we know a little too much about), Encroaching Elms, Forbidding Fences and Perilous Pools. But the section that is most interesting to us, is the section entitled "Blight On the Block". It says, (and I quote) "What about homeowners who paint their house purple? Landmark districts tend to have the firmest rules about what is acceptable and what isn't. Housing associations and planned communitites often have Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CCRs) you can check. But in some places, you'll just have to learn to live with the quirkiness next door."

Guess that last sentence is directed at our neighbors. Which leads me to ask...

What's so wrong about painting your house purple?

(that is a rhetorical question. I'm not actually looking for answers, unless you are going to leave comments telling me that I'm right... that there's absolutely nothing wrong with painting your house purple... and that Consumer Reports is just being silly.)

  3. Sooo happy that you are finally on blogger!

I like your purple house. It's unique! And as long as it's well maintained, I don't think there should be an issue:)

  4. Nothing is wrong with painting your house purple, we love purple. Do you think the author is one of your neighbors?? Perhaps someone in the house behind you with the barking dog?? Or the chicken coop people?? ;-)

  5. ROFLMBO! I too am a consumer reports nut. I think its hilarious. Your house looks nice, well maintained, hello they should at the very least appreciate the landmark! Seriously.

Although - I still can't believe your husband let you paint it purple. So yeah. When you coming to visit me?!

  6. Having a purple house and many other things purple is just one of the many things that causes me to love and adore a total stranger I have never met! :) I also love purple and had a purple living room in my last house. It was fantastic! If I had a neighbor with a purple home, I wouldn't be hating on them, I would be jealous!!!!

  7. Sorry about that last comment. Some strange man named Mike is not in love with you! That is my husbands name and I don't know why it says that when I write on blogs. I must find out how to change that. This is Katie (from the hair group)

  8. Well, at least it's Consumer Reports (my subscription is online) the editor's of which I assume are all wearing nylon permapress pants (no ironing!) in brown (can't see stains!) for two or three days at a time.

I once painted a room in light violet - actually my husband painted it - I told him it was white and he was just seeing things.

I hope your house is always purple.
