Calling All Lurkers: Should I Allow Comments?
Technically, every one of you is a “lurker”, because I’ve kept the comments turned off since I started my blog in 2006.
I explained early on about why I keep the comments turned off. There have been some benefits to keeping the comments turned off: no spam; no one can disagree with me or insult me; no one can start fights with other commenters; and it enables the blog to be a little different from other blogs out there.
But I must admit, it has its disadvantages too. Sometimes I enjoy reading the comments on other people’s blogs, responding to the author’s post. Unless someone takes the time to email me, I have no idea who my readers are and I don’t get feedback on what I write. Thank you, by the way, for all of you who have emailed me. I’ve gotten to know many very cool people out there who took the time to contact me personally.
But... now I’m asking you all to de-lurk and give me your feedback. Do you want me to turn the comments on? Or, do you want to stay “anonymous”?
One possible hitch is my Mac blogging software. I don’t know how easy it will be for a non-Mac person to leave a comment. (you’ll have to let me know) If it’s a pain, there’s no point.
So for now, I’m temporarily turning on the comments. This might be your one and only chance to voice your opinion on the matter.
Speak now, or forever hold your peace.
